Sensitization programme conducted

A one day workshop on "Sensitization of Police Personnel on the role of Manipur State Commission for Women" was held today at 1st MR Battalion Banquet Hall.
The workshop was jointly organized by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Manipur Police Department.
MSCW Chairperson Dr K Sobita, DIG of Manipur Police Department Vandana Karki and MSCW Members Ranjita Golmei, Soibam Neelima Devi and Dr Farida Shah attended the programme as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Dr K Sobita stressed on the important relation between MSCW and State police force.
"In some instances, relation between the two gets strained due to miscommunication which is very unfortunate," she stated.
She further said that installing women helpline centres in the State capital and other parts of the State is the need of the hour.
She also urged the Social Welfare Department and the authorities concerned to institute the much needed women helpline centre in the State capital at the earliest.
Vandana Karki stated the Manipur Police Department has taken up steps to install a women helpline centre for Imphal West district.
Two male sub-inspectors and two female sub-inspectors have been appointed for efficient functioning the centre and necessary training has also been imparted by the Social Welfare Department so as to provide necessary assistance.
Vandana Karki also mentioned about the roles of MSCW in delivering justice to women victims.
Ranjita Golmei elaborated the Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006 and its functions.
In the technical session, senior Advocate Khaidem Mani Singh emphasized the role of police in maintaining law and order.
He further said that MSCW was constituted in the year 2006 for people to address their grievances when any forms of crime are committed against women.
Advocate Ch Norendro Singh deliberated various provisions and areas where both MSCW and Manipur Police Department should be remain alert when working side by side.
