Erabot likely to join BJP

Imphal, September 09 2016: Senior Congress leader and Wangkhei AC MLA Yumkham Erabot is most likely to quit Congress party and join rival BJP.

Erabot was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly six times and he held different Ministerial portfolios including FCS, Education and PHED.

It is said that a large number of the electorate of Wangkhei AC have been exerting pressure on Erabot to quit Congress and join BJP.

He was first elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Janata Dal ticket in 1980.He was elected for the second time in 1984 on Congress ticket.

He was elected for the third time in 1995 on Congress ticket.

He won the 2002 Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) ticket.

He left MSCP and re-joined Congress and was re-elected for the fifth and sixth time on Congress ticket in 2007 and 2012 .

A large number of electorate of Wangkhei came to the residence of MLA Erabot and raised an uproar at around 10 am today.

They shouted that they were fed up of the Congress Government led by Okram Ibobi.

They even accused the Ibobi-Government of disappointing the people of Wangkhei AC.

They called upon each other to pledge collectively to work towards establishment of a new Government which can bring development and progress after routing the Congress party.

It is being speculated that all the Congress workers and supporters of Wangkhei AC would join BJP in case Erabot joins it.

Even as the electorate were raising an uproar, Erabot did not come out from his room.

When the crowd asked Erabot to come out and give his opinion, he did not give any comment saying that he was suffering from sore throat.

It is being speculated that Erabot may announce his decision tomorrow.

According to information received by press, Erabot may be formally announced as a member of BJP when the party's president Amit Shah visits the State on September 14 .
