Imphal, September 09 2016:
Delegates from the Outer Manipur Tribals' Forum (OMTF) and Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JACAATB) met the Governor today and highlighted the hardships and marginalisation of the tribals especially after the three Bills were passed by the State Assembly last year on August 31 .
The team from the two organisations made it clear that they are in pursuit of a sustainable solution that is acceptable to the tribals and stated that neither the Union Government nor the State Government seem to show any interest in the issue, as the mortal remains of 9 people are still awaiting an honourable burial.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor mentioning that the tribal people will not accept any new Bill or resolution unless satisfactory steps are taken towards complete nullification of the two pending 'anti-tribal' Bills.
The representation stressed that the political nature of the three 'anti-tribal' Bills means that only an acceptable political solution for the tribals will satisfy the urgent need of the hour.
