Imphal, July 03 2019:
President of United Committee Manipur (UCM), Sunil Karam has conveyed that UCM will not compromise when it comes to any topic or issue which threaten the unity and integrity of Manipur, which are communal and divisive.
He made the statement during the 19th foundation day celebration of UCM which was held at its head office at Lamphelpat today.
Speaking at the event, Sunil Karam said that as long as UCM exists, the Indian Government as well as any other body/party, can stop thinking about, let alone enforce, any such action which threaten the State.
Stating that it is imperative for all the communities residing in the State to come together and acknowledge that many factors are working to create tension and distrust among the different communities, he said that the time is right to identify who are the enemies and who are the allies.
If not, the Manipuris will surely go extinct in the future, he cautioned.
Talking about the peace talks between the Central Government and the NSCN (IM), Sunil Karam said that this has always been a source of fear and apprehension among the people residing in Manipur.
Till date, no one has been able to give a concrete assurance that this will not affect the integrity of the State, he added.
On the other hand, he said during the effort to unite and adopt a common resolution for the people of Manipur, various demands for homeland and territories are cropping up and added that UCM will not compromise when it comes to any such communal and disruptive acts.
Instead of such demands, it is better to work together to develop Manipur for the betterment of all, he opined.
AMKIL president Phanjoubam Sakhi, Kanglamei president Y Leirik Leima, UCM consultative committee members RK Ranendrajit, H Ibotombi Khuman, PANDM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, NIPCO president Th Manihar, IPSA president Joychandra Konthoujam, UPF Manipur president Warepam Second and ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak president Sanjit Soraisam also attended the event as the presidium members.
