Imphal, July 03 2019:
As many as 14 dissident BJP MLAs have made it clear that they would stay away from the monsoon session of the State Assembly in case there is no change of leadership by then.
Nonetheless, they have been expecting a 'new Government' by July 10.Talking with The Sangai Express, one dissident MLA, on condition of anonymity, said that they explained in detail to BJP Central leaders about the need for replacing Chief Minister N Biren and bringing a new leadership in the State.
After listening to the dissident MLAs, BJP Central leaders said that a solution can be explored after the ongoing Parliament session ends of July 26.However, it is mandatory that the monsoon session of the State Assembly should be adjourned on or before August 2.As the State Assembly is currently kept prorogued, it requires a Cabinet decision to convene a State Assembly session and forward the same decision to the Governor.
After obtaining approval of the Governor, the Cabinet decision should be sent to the State Assembly.
Pointing out that this process would take time, the dissident MLAs urged the BJP Central leaders to bring a new BJP leadership in the State within the current week.
The 14 MLAs also made it clear that they would stay away from the State Assembly in case any session is convened before a new Government is installed, according to the MLA who sought anonymity.
If any money Bill is introduced in the monsoon session in the absence of the 14 BJP MLAs, Opposition parties may capitalise on their absence and the ruling parties may eventually find themselves a minority.
Highlighting all these possibilities, BJP Central leaders were urged to instal a new Government before the State Assembly session is convened, he conveyed.
Claiming that the BJP Central leaders took serious note of their points, the MLA exuded confidence that the BJP high command would initiate a positive step shortly.
He went on to claim that a new Government would be installed in the State by July 10.On being enquired about who would be the Chief Minister of the new Government, the dissident MLA said that there are three in the reckoning without naming them.
All three of them would have already submitted their resumes and the Central leaders would have studied their qualifications, political backgrounds etc, said the MLA.
However, nothing is very clear yet.
Someone who is least expected may also be appointed to the Chief Minister's post, he said.
As a part of the sustained campaign to install a new BJP-led Government in place of the incumbent one led by N Biren, a former president of BJP Manipur Pradesh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP working president JP Nadda inside the Parliament on Monday.
After talking with the BJP Central leaders, the former BJP State unit president held a meeting with the dissident MLAs inside the Parliament.
