Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu has said that despite advancement in information technology, there is still a large psychological barrier to get technologically savvy among the common people which needs to be eradicated.
He made the statement during a workshop on Digilocker (app) which was organised at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal, today, under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Manipur and National e-Governance Division (NeGD) .
IT Commissioner, Manipur, Sumant Singh, NeGD Director Debabrata Nayak and State Informatics Officer, NIC, Manipur, Kh Rajen also attended the event as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu said that the world is on a race in terms of information technology and as a part of the benefits of technology, the country is also becoming more digitised day by day.
However, there is still a barrier among the common people when it comes to information technology and this needs to be eradicated, he added.
Digilocker will be of great benefit for the Government agencies and in works like providing free gas connections and other schemes etc, the Chief Secretary said.
If the app can be downloaded and used in any simple phone, not only smartphones, then it will be of even more help to the common people, he added.
On the other hand, Debabrata Nayak said that NeGD through Digilocker is working tirelessly to improve the life of the people.
In some parts of the country, people can file and process documents like driving license and academic files using the app, he said adding that the various Departments of the Government needs to revise their rules and regulations to ensure Digilocker app integration.
