Imphal, July 03 2019:
The Construction Committee has conveyed that establishment of the Manipur University of Culture will not only benefit Wakha, but the localities of the surrounding areas as well and appealed to the State Government and the local MLA to do the needful at the earliest.
On the other hand, womenfolk of Naharup Makha Pat and people staged a sit in protest at Naharup Makha Pat condemning the obstruction posed towards the establishment of the Manipur University of Culture at Wakha.
Speaking to media persons at Naharup Makha Pat today, Construction Committee president Heisnam Henba said that it is unfortunate that a section of Wakha opposed the creation of the university at Wakha.
Establishment of such a university at Wakha will greatly benefit not only the people of Wakha but also the people of Kshtrigao Kendra now and in the future.
The presence of the university in Wakha will provide an avenue of generating employment for the people of Wakha who can indulge in rent business, vending etc, Henba said adding that it will also result in arrival of better connectivity in the region.
He then reasoned that if the university is shifted to another location, then the people of Wakha and Kshetrigao Kendra will be filled with remorse.
On the other hand, Construction Committee legal advisor Thokchom Saratchandra said that the claims made by some people that the place where the university is supposed to be built, is land given to them by the Manipur State Durbar, is simply illogical and uncalled for.
Nongmaiching was constituted as reserved forest based on the notification issued by the State Government on April 1, 1990 under the Indian Forest Act, 1927, he explained.
