Imphal, October 13, 2013:
A 15-member team of People's Organisation for Civil Integrity and Liberties (POCIL), Heirok today inspected the site of the border fencing along Border Pillar no.79 with Myanmar near Muslim Basti, Moreh Ward no.5 today afternoon.
Border fencing work in the area has remained suspended for the time being.
During the inspection, the team came across that when the border fencing from Border Pillar no.79 to 80 is to be constructed in straight line, it would pass through the river and playground of Muslim Basti.
Talking to media on the sidelines of the inspection, Kh Ibomcha Singh, President of People's Organisation for Civil Integrity and Liberties, Heirok, who is leading the team, pointed out that allowing the border fencing right in the middle of the playground would be much to the disappointment of many a young budding players living in and around the village.
Objecting to loss of any portion of land of Manipur to Myanmar on account of the border fencing work, Ibomcha said that his organisation would always stand firm in this regard.
He also expressed desire on the part of the people and political parties in Manipur to stand as one the issue and observed that such united stand would be able to send out the right message to all concerned.
