Seven BRTF labourers lost lives, 35 others injured in mishap

Imphal, March 25, 2013:
At least seven BRTF labourers, including three women have been killed and 35 others injured after the truck in which they were travelling plunged into a deep gorge along Indo-Myanmar border in Moreh in Chandel district today morning.
The unfortunate incident occurred around 8.30 am near Govajang village, 2 kms to the east of Moreh Police Station, when the Tata Tipper Truck in which the labourers attached with 82 RCC under 25 BRTF were heading towards their work place for border fencing suddenly stopped due to engine failure while taking an upturn.
The truck skidded off the road and fell into the gorge killing four of them on the spot.
Three others latter succumbed to the injuries at Moreh Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Tulshi Thapa (40) w/o Raj Bahadur of Kayashok village, Ukhrul district; Vahneilam Kipgen (25) w/o Nehminei Kipgen of Govajang village, Moreh, Chandel district; Kahovan Devi, w/o Vijay Janging from Jharkhand; Nukul Orang (21) s/o Gangur Orang of Assam; Joura Phan (48) s/o Nara Phan of Jharkhand; Sundar Phan (20) s/o Joura Phan, also from Jharkhand; Saidul Alom (19) s/o Nayrudeen from Assam.
Among the injured, 19 of them are reportedly undergoing treatment at Moreh Hospital, where even doctors of 9 Assam Rifles extended their service, while 15 others whose condition are serious have been brought to Imphal for specialized treatment.

Hearing the news of the mishap, personnel of 4 Assam Rifles stationed near Moreh Gate no.4 rushed in to help in evacuation of the deceased as well as the injured victims in their vehicles.
