Imphal, August 08 2019:
Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan has appealed to the people and all those who are concerned with the functioning of the National Sports University to be patient for some time so that its functioning is streamlined and the full administrative unit is established in Manipur with all the selection committee meetings and other meetings held at the university HQ.
A press release issued by the MP mentioned that various section of the society have expressed apprehension regarding the functioning of the NSU and added that even though NSU was announced in 2014 just after the Narendra Modi led Government was sworn in, NSU could not function properly due to various reasons.
However, all necessary requirements have now been put into place including the Act to govern it and in the near future, it will function from its permanent campus, the MP added.
Pointing out the objections to the holding of selection committee meeting at Delhi instead of Imphal regarding the recruitment of faculty members of the temporary campus at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Dr RK Ranjan stated that he called upon Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju seeking his intervention for organising the said meeting at Imphal.
Claiming that Kiren Rijiju agreed to the said point, the MP said that he and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda called on the Union Minister again urging him to conduct the selection committee meeting at Imphal.
Clarifying that the meeting on August 5 and the coming meeting on August 9 are mainly to extend the contract period of the existing faculty members, the MP appealed to the people to be patient and added that the Union Minister also assured his full support to the wishes of the people and to do everything in his powers to make NSU a full fledged specialised university with its HQs in Manipur and future recruitment being done here as well.
