Kumbi killing: Locals, JAC protest

Demanding stringent punishment to the accused Nongmaithem Surjit alias Athebi (37), who allegedly killed Kh Achou Meitei of Kumbi Setupur Mayai Leikai on August 6, the JAC formed in connection with the incident and locals staged a sit-in today at Kumbi Bazar.
Kh Achou was allegedly decapitated to death with a spade over a land dispute.
During the sit-in, president of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Kh Achou Meitei, Kh Jaya Devi said that the JAC will meet the Chief Minister and submit memorandum containing various demands to give justice to the surviving family members.
If the Chief Minister agrees to the demands, then the JAC will take the body of the deceased, she said.
The JAC will launch stringent agitation if demands are not met, she added.
She also condemned the various alleged demeaning comments floating around the social media regarding the JAC formed in connection with the case.
The JAC may take up action against individuals who are spreading rumours, false propaganda on social media, she cautioned.
