Locals stage sit-in

The Hospital Management Committee CHC Wangoo Laipham and locals staged sit-in protest demanding adequate doctors at the health centre today.
The health centre was upgraded to Community Health Centre from Primary Health Centre status in the December 2017.Stating that one doctor of the centre is on study leave and other two were transferred recently, Wangoo Gram Panchayat Ward No 6 Member Amom Angousana Devi, who is also a member of the Hospital Management Committee, said that the centre is failing due to lack of doctors.
This year, upto April, the health centre has attended to around 4,380 patients, she said informing that many in the areas around depend on the centre for healthcare.
They have also met the Director concerned and Health Minister Jayantakumar on July 15 and 27 respectively with the appeal to send doctors to fill the vacant at the centre, she said.
She claimed that the Minister had 'assured' them that doctors will be sent 'within first week of August'.
Condemning the Minister and authorities concerned for not standing up to their assurance, she informed that the hospital management committee together with the Meira Paibis will be shutting down the centre from August 16 if doctors are not sent by August 15.Another member of the hospital management committee, Th Dharmendra Singh said that the locals are happy on the upgradation of the centre to CHC, but denounce the lack of required infrastructure and doctors which are the needs of the patients/locals.
People of Sugnu, Kumbi, Hiyanglam, Saikul and other places in the region depend on the centre for healthcare, he said.
