11 JE cases confirmed in Thoubal

Thoubal, August 02 2019:
After a 13 years old girl from Thoubal Kshetri Leikai was confirmed with Japanese Encephalitis (JE) on August 1, staff of Integrated Disease Surveillance Unit and National Vector Born Disease Control Programme convened a meeting in the presence of CMO Thoubal at the office of the latter, today.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, CMO Thoubal, Dr N Jayentakumar stated that so far 11 cases of JE have been confirmed in the district.
He also said that 10 victims out of 11 are below 20 while the remaining one is above 70 years.
District Health Society have taken up stringent preventive measures like fogging at different places after a confirmed case of JE was reported from Keibung on July 5, the CMO said while appealing the general public to take up all precautionary measures to avoid mosquito bites.
He also appealed the public not to stay too close to their pet animals to avoid mosquito bites.
Meanwhile, a team of Integrated Disease Surveillance Unit and National Vector Born Disease Control Programme has carried out fogging within 1 km radius of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai as a preventive measure today.
