Voter ID correction goes online

Voters can now correct or verify the details and image shown in their elector ID cards through online method.
Speaking to The Sangai Express today, Chief Electoral Officer PK Singh conveyed that an elector verification programme will be conducted from August 16 to September 30, as per the instruction of Election Commission of India.
As a part of the programme, electors can now verify or make changes to the details provided in the voter ID card by submitting a form to the nearest Common Service Centre and corrections can be made through the Chief Electoral Officer's website and there would be no need to visit the offices DCs or SDOs.
For places which do not have internet access, voters can list out the errors and changes they desire to make on the form and submit it to the BLO, said the CEO, adding that the verified/corrected ID cards will then be distributed to the voters.
For the process to be more efficient, voters can submit valid documents approved by the Government including Passport, Driving Licence, Aadhaar card, Ration card, Bank pass book and other documents acknowledged by ECI.
PK Singh said that this measure has been taken up to regulate errors/ wrong information given in the electoral roll.
He went on to inform that voters who would attain 18 years of age by January next year can be enrolled in the electoral roll during the ongoing Special Summary Revision 2020.The officer added that the draft electoral roll will be published on October 15 and the final electoral roll will be released in January next year.
