Poultry distributed under RBP Scheme

117 selected beneficiaries of Imphal West district were provided chicks (Rainbow rooster) under the Rural Backyard Poultry Scheme (RBPS) Friday.
The chicks/poultry were distributed during a function held at the office of Imphal West Zilla Parishad, Lamphelpat DC Complex in the presence of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Director H Chaoba, ZP Adhyaksha RK Taruni and members of the ZP.
Speaking at the event, Veterinary & AH Director H Chaoba said that poultry/livestock farming is a very important sector of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission to double the farmers' income by 2022.Only agricultural activities in the farms won't be enough to increase income.
Farmers need to adopt livestock/poultry farming alongside agricultural activities to increase their income substantially, he said stating that the RBP Scheme will provide new opportunities and means to earn extra income that can sustain farmers' families.
The RBP Scheme is implemented through the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Autonomous District Councils.
The scheme will also be implemented in other districts also, he said.
The chicks provided under the scheme are Rainbow roosters, a low input bird.
They are disease tolerant, easy to feed and manage, he said.
The Director also informed that there also schemes under the National Livestock Mission to distribute kids (goats) and piglets.
