Mason killed

A mason was killed at Heingang Panthoibi Leikai under Imphal East district last night.
The deceased mason has been identified as Mutum Gulapi (60) of Heingang Panthoibi Leikai.
He received bullet wound at the head and is believed to have been shot at point blank range.
According to information culled from the spot, Gulapi was enjoying a local event in connection with Panthoibi Eratpa last night at a ground opposite his residence.
Two shots of gunfire were heard at around 9pm.Later he was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood at his gate by two local women.
Suspecting that he met an accident, Gulapi was rushed to hospital where he died on the way.
The fact that he died of bullet wound was established when a team of Heingang Police came to the spot.
Meanwhile, along with the staging of a sit-in protest against the killing at Panthoibi Eratpham ground, a JAC has been constituted against the killing of Gulapi today.
Stating that Gulapi was an innocent and harmless being, the sit-in strongly condemned the killing.
The JAC has also decided to submit a memorandum to the State Home Minister demanding booking of the culprits within seven days.
The JAC also decided to launch agitation if the authority fails to nab the culprits within seven days.
A case has been registered at Heingang PS in connection with the incident.
Family members claimed the dead body of Gulapi after a post mortem examination was conducted today at JNIMS morgue.
