Rice varieties launched

Two high yielding and palatable varieties of rice, known locally as Mangan Phou and Enot Phou, were launched today by scientists of Central Agriculture University (CAU).
The two varieties of rice were launched today by MP Th Meinya during a farmers' field day organised by CAU Imphal at Experimental cum Demonstration Farm located at Andro.
The function was graced by VC of CAU, Dr SN Puri and Khullakpa of Andro, Chingakham Gandar Meitei as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Introducing the rice varieties launched today, Dr M Rohinikumar said the two varieties Mangan Phou and Enot Phou (CAU-R3 and CAU-R4) would assume great significance in the State.
Rohinikumar said not only the rice varieties are high yielding and palatable, the same can be reaped within a span of hundred days.
The rice can yield/produce upto 4 metric tones from an acre of arable land.
Chief guest of the function, Dr Thokchom Meinya stressed on the need to harvest rain water in the wake of global water crisis.
He also urged all professionals to work hand in hand for the welfare of the society.
