Bus torched while on 'break'

Imphal, August 23 2011:
A passenger bus was set afire by some unidentified miscreants at Chingamakha Maibam Leirak last night.
Passenger bus (MN01-1697) plying on ImphalGuwahati route was parked outside the residential premises of its owner Thokcom Ranjan at Chingamakha Maibam Leirak.
Two persons including the second driver of the bus were sleeping inside the bus.
At about 11 am, some miscreants stuck a plastic bottle containing petrol between the two tyres of the rear wheel on the left side and set it afire.
As the two persons sleeping inside the bus came to know about the fire in time, the local people managed to douse the fire using mud and water.
Another plastic bottle containing petrol was also found stuck between the two tyres of the right rear wheel though it was not torched.
Decrying the act of arson, local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration
today.

They also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts of arson in future.
Bus owner Thokchom Ranjan said that there was no case of any monetary demand from any UG group nor threats nor any personal enmity.
Incidentally, the bus reached Imphal only a few days back after being stranded for several days in Nagaland due to bandhs and blockades.
The bus reached Imphal via Jessami and Ukhrul.
