SHDDC receives BJP blessings, Gadkari writes to Manmohan

BJP president Nitin Gadkari has written to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh urging him to intervene in the intensified Sadar Hills district demand stir and do the needful for creation of the district.
Gadkari wrote the letter after a delegation of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) including its general secretary Tonghen Kipgen and BJP leaders met at the Delhi residence of Gadkari today afternoon.
Manipur unit BJP secretary (media affairs) L Bashanta Sharma, who also joined the meeting with Gadkari, told this reporter over phone that the BJP, which supports the SHDDC agitation, would also highlight the matter in the ongoing Parliament.
In his letter sent to the PM , the BJP leader said "You may be aware that a legislation "Manipur (Hills area) Autonomous District Council Act 1971 was passed by the Parliament for creation of six autonomous district councils" .

All the other five districts have been converted to full fledged district more than 30 years ago.
In fact the status of Sadar hills district autonomous district is still awaited, he said and added that it is necessary that in the interest of development and ethnic peace their demand be fulfilled.
" I feel that your good office will intervene in the matter and forward this issue to the State of Manipur for immediate implementation of the Manipur (Hills area) Autonomous District Council act 1971" the letter added.
Besides Basanta , other BJP leaders who met Gadkari included the party's national general Tapir Gao, Avinash Koli, general secretary (organization ) and P Somojit Singh, National Executive member (BJYM) .
