Imphal, August 23 2011:
Finally the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has agreed to exempt life saving drugs from the purview of the ongoing general strike on National Highways.
Responding to the appeals from NEPO, AMCO and the Red Cross Society, the SHDDC, in a press statement, informed that life saving drugs, including oxygen may be ferried only by ambulances of Red Cross Society, Manipur and other ambulances.
"Despite 40 year old negligence and denial of our development, the people of Sadar Hills and the SHDDC dare not stand against medical need of the people of Manipur", it said.
The moral support, philanthropic assistance and encouragements from all sections of society in and around Imphal would remain a gesture of brotherly concern.
The committee appreciated BJP, MPP, TCP and other political parties for wholeheartedly supporting a genuine demand for equal development, peace and harmony in the State.
It also appreciated NEPO (Manipur Chapter), AMCO, Red Cross Society Manipur, civil societies, NGOs, Meira Paibis and other frontal organisations for continuously advocating peaceful co-existence among the people of Manipur.
Unlike the previous stand taken, the SPF Government under O Ibobi Singh is now heading in the right track for fulfilling the demand of the Sadar Hills people in time.
"Constructive criticisms from all angles remain our strength in advancing our cause for districthood of Sadar Hills.
We are convinced that every genuine and rightful demand is met by opposition.
However, enlightened people of Manipur have the prerogative of taking judicious decision this time," it added.
Numerous appeals had been issued to the SHHDC to exempt cases related to
health and medicine .
