Cops clarify on Commandos/Imphal West

Refuting news reports, Senior SP of Imphal West District L Kailun has clarified that Commandos/Imphal West unit have not assaulted or beaten up Leishiwon at Commando complex, Imphal West on August 19 .
In a statement, the police officer recalled that at around 2.30 pm on August 19, a team of Commandos, Imphal West unit on patrolling duty came across three persons, namely Chanhansing Tangkhul (20) s/o late Shiraysa of Nungshong village, Ukhrul district, Surrender Hungyo (46) s/o Luingai Hungyo of Yaingangpokpi, New Cannan Village and Leishiwon Mashangva (32) w/o M John Wangshei of Yaingangpokpi, New Cannan village, moving around in a suspicious manner in Khuman Lampak area.
Accordingly, all three of them were detained for verification.
During spot verification, Chanhansing Tangkhul stated that he came to collect Pig feeds.
But further questioning led to his own disclosure that he is a member of NSCN (IM) and completed basic military training in 2007 at CHQ, Dimapur, the police officer informed, adding that four live rounds of AK-Rifle ammunition were also seized from his possession.
The police officer further said that initially, all three of them stated that they were collecting Pig feeds.
However, they were unable to explain why they had come all the way from Yaingangpokpi to collect Pig feeds in Khuman Lampak in the vicinity of the residences of ADC members.
Immediately, women police were requisitioned and the three were arrested at the spot.
The arrest refers to FIR no.487 (8) 2011 of Imphal Police Station , u/s 16/18/20 Unlawful Activities (P) Ammnd Act and read with 25 (1-B) Arms Act.
Subsequently, the three accused were produced before the Court and the Court released Leishiwon on bail on health ground while the other two accused were remanded to police custody for further investigation.
They are under active interrogation and investigation of the case is on, the police officer added.
