Banks breach at many points, CM inspects

A large number of homesteads and vast tracts of paddy which are ready for harvesting (Anganphou) have been flooded as Imphal River bank breached opening a long gap of 70 feet at Mayang Imphal Chabung Company MakhaLeikai.
Chief Minister N Biren accompanied by IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip inspected the flood affected areas, straight after his arrival from Aizawl today.
The particular portion of the river bank collapsed at around 11.30 am today.
Huge volumes of water gushing out from the breached portion have flooded Mayang Imphal SDC Office, Mayang Imphal Higher Secondary School, radio station, power house and Mayang Imphal Girls' High School.
As large number ofhomesteads located at Chabung Company Mayai, Awang and Mamang, Thana Awang Leikai, Mailing, Mamang and Kokchai Maning Khunou have been inundated, around 5000 people have shifted to safer places.
After visiting the flood affected areas along with the Imphal West DC, SDO Wangoi and SDC Mayang Imphal, Mayang Imphal Municipal Council Chairperson Asem Radhamani said that four relief camps would be opened as immediate relief measure.
Apart from around 40 paris of paddy cultivations which are ready for harvesting, around 20 paris of fish farms have also been submerged.
Moreover, large number of cattle and poultry have been killed or washed away by the flood water, Radhamani said.
She then urged the Government to take up all possible relief measures immediately.
Another portion of Imphal River bank breached at Kairang thereby flooding around 400 homesteads of Kairang Umang and Kairang Awang Leikai.
The displaced families have been given refuge at Kairang Dispensary and Kairang community hall, informed a source.
Rising to the demand of the time, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip visited flood-affected areas - after a portion of the Imphal River bank breached in the wee hours today - at Kairang Muslim under Heingang AC and took stock of the situation today morning.
About 13 ft long stretch of the river bank at Kairang reportedly breached at around 1.30 am today.
Some families in the area who have been displaced due to the flood are sheltered at two relief camps set up by the Government.
One relief camp has been set up at a Madrassa building and another at the veterinary building.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh headed straight to Kairang moments after he landed from Aizawl via Guwahati today morning.
About 150 households have been provided shelter at the camps.
About 30 ft long stretch of Imphal River breached at Chabung Kompany, Mayang Imphal at about 12.30 noon today.
Meanwhile, water level along major rivers passing through Imphal witnessed slight receding today.
At 6 pm today, the water level of Imphal River at Minuthong receded to 787.725 from yesterday's above High Flood Level.
However, the water level of the same river at Lilong still touched the 783 M mark by the same time.
The water level of Irilbung River at Irilbung was put at 786.900 M at 6 pm today while the water level of Nambul River at Hump Bridge receded to 783.250 M at 6 pm.
At the same time, four sluice gates of Ithai Barrage (No.2, 3, 4 and 5) have been fully opened since 8.20 am today.
The water level at Ithai touched 769.180 M mark at 6 am today.
According to records maintained by the IFC Department, the rainfall at Kangpokpi from 8 am yesterday (June 13) to 8 am today was 29 mm while the amount of rainfall recorded at Saikul was 15 mm.
At Litan, 1 MM of rainfall was recorded for the same period while the rainfall recorded at Raj Bhavan was 2 mm.
At Lamphelpat, rainfall was recorded at 2.50 mm and at Jiribam, rainfall was recorded at 11 mm during the same duration.
