Ukhrul, February 11 2016: J Chithung (42), PDS agent of 44/ Phungyar Assembly Constituency, Ukhrul was reportedly beaten black and blue by unidentified persons last night at the outskirt of Ukhrul town.

According to family members, J Chithung was forcibly taken away by five persons from his residence at Phungreitang West last night at around 10 .

He along with another PDS agent Ashang were taken somewhere at the outskirt of the town.

After firing a round of gun shot, J Chithung was severely beaten up while Ashang received minor abrasion on his body.

J Chithung was later released at Gandhi Chowk, Phungreitang at around 12 midnight.

He was rushed immediately to CHRSC hospital from where he was referred to a hospital in Imphal today.

The family members further said that a team of Ukhrul police came to enquire about the incident before Chithung was taken to Imphal.

According to police source, there have been reports of threats against Chithung by some unidentified groups or individual(s) earlier as well.

He was threatened not to deposit the amount for procurement of PDS rice and to resign as PDS agent of Phungyar A/C.It has been presumed that yesterday's incident is more or less related with earlier threats.

Family members stated that Chithung is an innocent person, and has been working as PDS agent of Phungyar Constituency for the last 3-4 years.

The victim's family has also demanded immediate clarification from the individual(s) or group(s) involved while also urging all concerned to shun violence.

At the same time, Kham Lungpha Frontal Organisation (KLFO), Tangkhul Aje Katamnao Long (TAKL) and Shambu Raiping Katamnao Long (SRKL) strongly condemned the assault on Johny Chithung.
