Imphal, December 10 2013:
The Manipuri Students' Federation has urged all the mission and private schools under the Manipur board, CBSE and NCERT to adhere to the rules and regulations under the Right to Education Act.
In a statement issued to the press today, the student body said that they have come to learn that some schools are not only increasing the admission fees every year but also demanding security deposits.
The student body has also notified the mission and private schools to submit a report to all the parents, stating the reasons for soaring admission fees before MSF takes up its course of action.
It also added that some capitalists are opening up new schools as business ventures with the sole objective of earning huge profits without any consideration for the parents and the welfare of the students as well as at the cost of education.
Under the rules of the Directorate of School Education and BOSEM, if any person or organisation wishes to open a school, it should have a proper school playground, a library and decent classrooms which can accomodate the students.
When studied, only handful out of the hundred schools are well functioned and well equiped.
If these schools continue to operate in a negligence way, MSF doubt a bright future for the students.
It further said that some mission schools and private schools are teaching books which are not prescribed by the BOSEM.
Instead of taking up a lottery system of admitting new students, all the schools should follow a written examination after which the meritorious students should be selected, the statement said.
MSF also added that the State Government and the Education Minister should take up necessary steps to check the manner in which the schools are being run and ensure that the students get quality education.
