Imphal, March 08 2020:
On the occasion of International Women day, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) honoured the lady scribes serving in different media houses of Manipur by presenting gifts today.
AMWJU organized the International Women's Day at Manipur Press Club with Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam, Works, RD&PR and IPR Minister Th Biswajit and AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam attending the function as dignitaries.
Speaking at the gathering, Thokchom Radheshyam, while noting the significant role of a woman in the society, appealed to the people to respect women.
"We should never forget two persons in our life.
The first one is our father who loses everything to make us win in our life.
The second one is our mother who braves and faces every suffering to make us happy at all times.
Those people who consider women as weak, are fools.
Women are much higher than men.
A house is a place where we live while a home is a place where good relationship is maintained.
When we give a house to a woman, she converts it into a good home.
Give grocery and vegetables to a woman, she converts it into a delicious meal.
Give a child to a woman, she converts the child into a good man.
As such, we should respect women," the Minister said.
On the other hand, Biswajit said that Manipuri women are unique as they have been taking pivotal roles in the socio-economy, political and other issues of the State for years.
The historic Nupi Lan, 1939, shows the courage of Manipuri women who fought against the British.
When the menace of drug and alcohol engulfed the State, Manipuri women came out to counter the menace in the form of Nishaband and later the Meira Paibi movement.
In politics too, women participation and mobilization is very strong.
In administration, the State has seen increased number of women bureaucrat officers, police officers.
Women participation in entrepreneurship and MSME sector in the State is significantly increasing as well, he added.
Later, women scribes were presented gifts as a part of the event.
