Dimapur, July 19 2015 :
The Mao Council has clarified that its April 23 memorandum to the Government of Manipur "for protection of Mao land at Koziirii & Dziiko" will not take "further effect as the land dispute is in the Judicial Court of TPO (Tenyimi Public Organization) and the Mao Council will not pursue the memorandum further" .
This was contained in a statement issued by the Mao Council yesterday.
"The Mao Council submitted a memorandum dated the 23rd April, 2015, to the Manipur Government for protection of Mao land at Koziirii & Dziiko, and it seems the said memorandum has created some confusion in the minds of our Naga brothers" .
The Mao Council expressed regret if the memorandum had caused any "misunderstanding or created undesirable situation" in the society.
"We had also expressed our trust and confidence in TPO through our representatives in the TPO meeting held on the 4th July, 2015 to take up the matter under the banner of TPO.
Subsequently this decision was unanimously endorsed in the Mao Council general body meeting held on the 11th July, 2015 that TPO should arbitrate the case.
"Therefore, it is sincerely prayed that the good office of TPO will adjudicate the issue as per the tradition and customary law of the Tenyimi people in true justice so as to bring about mutual trust and understanding between the concerned parties and the Tenyimi family in general," the statement read.
It also expressed appreciation to the APO, CPO, NMA, KVC and NPO for their efforts towards finding an amicable solution to the dispute.
"We also appreciate the good wishes of NSF, ENPO, ANSAM, NWU, Naga Council Dimapur, Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Angami, Mao and other Naga Churches for their prayers and good wishes for reconciliation to prevail" .
