Imphal, August 08 2019:
Two students of CC Higher Secondary School were injured after police fired several tear gas shells to control a large number of students who launched a protest demanding justice for Babysana today.
A large number of students of the school came out from the school campus at around 1.30 pm today and blocked the road leading from Palace Compound to Sanjenthong, demanding justice for Ningthoujam Babysana.
To control the situation, a team of Imphal East district, led by the SP, rushed to the area and tension rose between the two parties.

The agitating students even tried to organise a rally upto Sanjenthong but they were prevented from doing so by the police.
After failing to proceed towards Sanjenthong, the students headed towards Palace Compound and began dismantling the police barricades set up near Palace Gate and blocked the road.
The students then proceeded towards Checkon road and also closed down all the shops and business establishments in the area.
However, before reaching Hatta, two Imphal East district police Gypsys tried to overtake the students which led to the students resorting to violence and breaking the headlamps of the two vehicles.
The irate students then tried to cross Minuthong and proceed towards Imphal West district but they were prevented from doing so by a team of Imphal West district police deployed at the area.
After the situation worsened, the police began using smoke bombs to disperse the students and push them back but undeterred, the students sat down on the bridge and began blocking the road.
The students refused to return to their school even after repeated instructions and as such, the police began using smoke bombs to force the students back.
Unfazed, the students also retaliated by pelting stones at the police.
To disperse the agitating students, the police then began using tear gas shells.
Two students were injured due and had to be evacuated to JNIMS for treatment.
After they were pushed back to their school, the students continued their protest by blocking the road and the traffic.
However, it was short-lived as the police forced them back inside the school campus.
The police also closed down the road from Palace Compound to Sanjenthong fearing that the stones flung by the students from inside the school might harm innocent passers-by and drivers.
