Imphal, August 07 2016 :
A 40-year-old driver of an inter-State passenger bus has been abducted from Dimapur on August 5 last.
Strongly condemning the incident, All Manipur Night Super Bus Drivers' Welfare Association (AMNSBDWA) has decided to launch an indefinite steering-off stir if the driver is not released safe and sound immediately.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, association president Th Ingobi said that the abducted man, identified as Thokchom Inao (40) s/o (L) Nimai of Khongjom bazar, is a driver of ZED Travels.
When he was driving his bus carrying passengers towards Guwahati on the day, three unknown persons stopped his vehicle near Dimapur Municipal Corporation gate on the pretext of checking the bus at around 8.30 pm.
They then pulled down Inao and his co-driver from the bus.
After some time, the unknown persons took away the driver in a four-wheeler vehicle leaving the co-driver, bus and all the passengers there, Th Ingobi said.
He further said that although they have highlighted the matter to DGP Manipur but no positive response has been received so far.
In this regard, Ingobi urged the State Government to secure the safe release of the driver.
Taking part at the press conference, All Manipur Inter State Winger and Cruiser Drivers' Welfare Union president Chongtham Shanker said that this is not the first case of abduction and harassment of drivers in Nagaland.
Alleging that there is no law in Nagaland, Shanker said that police never intervene when miscreants collect money in front of them in the neighbouring State.
He said that All Manipur Inter State Winger and Cruiser Drivers' Welfare Union would also join the steering-off stir from August 9 if the abducted driver is not released.
