A one-day seminar on 'Women education in
Manipur' was held today at Nupilan Memorial Complex here un-
der the aegis of the Society for Human Advancement and People's
Education (SHAPE).
Speaking at the seminar, Head, Department of History,
Manipur University Dr L Kunjeshori said that all parents
should treat their daughters at par with their sons even though
they are different physiologically.
Even though the world today has developed a lot, many
parents are still unable to treat their sons and daughters on an
equal footing.
She also underscored the importance of education and
economic empowerment in bridging gender disparity.
Kunjeshori also expressed keen desire for the authority
concerned to ensure that women living in remote and interior
areas of the State have access to quality education.
Shukla Bhatacharjee of Guwahati University said dramatic
changes can be achieved in a society if women are economi-
cally independent.
She also hailed late MK Binodini for establishing a school
and for her efforts to impart formal education to girls.
