Evicted Sendra folks seek rehabilitation

Many people who have been displaced due to eviction of houses and shops from Sendra foothill have been taking shelter at Ibudhou Ningthou Sendra community hall since August 3 .
Speaking to reporters, one Moirangthem Maipakpi said that many people have been residing at Sendra area from the time of their forefathers.
She said that there is a ground at Sendra and Sendra Youth Club possesses a land Dag Chitha of the said ground.
Most of the people residing around the ground were those who were evicted from Sendra in 2002, she said and added that they were allowed to settle around the ground by the Government at that time.
However, she said, the Government again served a notice to leave the area on July 23.Although, Moirang SDPO and his team came at Sendra foothill to put up the notice, the villagers did not allow them to do so on July 25, she said.
On August 3 last, officials concerned suddenly came with a large number of police personnel at the area and evicted the villagers from there, she said.
Nine shops, 11 houses and 37 street vendor sheds were pulled down during the eviction drive, she said.
Saying that the local MLA had promised to rehabilitate them at another place, she said the promise has not been translated into action till date.
She urged the Government to rehabilitate them at the earliest so that they may settle down peacefully.
