Imphal, June 01 2016:
Non-locals in Imphal were forced to stay indoors as the writ of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) that they should not venture out from their place of residence in Greater Imphal came into force today.
The restriction will go on till tomorrow.
The JCILPS had earlier spelt out a series of protest movement to pile the pressure on the State Government to approach Dehi and get the three Bills passed by the Assembly last year enacted.
Police were deployed in large number in and around Kwairamband bazar, including Thangal bazar and Paona bazar, the main commercial areas of the city in view of the stringent restriction.
No shops were opened due to the stay-at-home restriction on Wednesday.
Normal functioning of Government offices was paralysed due to a separate curfew imposed by the committee intensifying the ILP stir.
All Government establishments are expected to remain disrupted till June 3 .
The resort comes amidst preparations for polls to Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) tomorrow (Thursday).
The polling will take place from 8 am to 4 pm across 27 wards.
JCILPS said that non-locals should not be allowed to take part in the election process.
Women Wing of JCILPS has also banned non locals from hawking their wares and non local labourers.
The restriction is likely to remain in force till the ILP Bills are converted into Acts.
The women wing convenor Thongam Apabi said here yesterday that it would also ban renting out room, house or apartment to non-locals until the demand was met.
Sensing more trouble, the State Government has declared holiday for all educational institutes in the valley.
The committee's student wing has been leading students in the campaign for implementation of ILP in Manipur.
Many young protesters, mostly students, have been injured in police crackdown and many of them are now under detention.
The intensified ILP stir continued unabated on Wednesday.
