Imphal, February 26 2012:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) celebrated its first raising day together with a cultural extravaganza somewhere in Tamenglong district yesterday.
By participating en masse and presenting colourful traditional dance and music, Zeliangrong people made the first raising day celebration a notable event.
Zeliangrong people including women and children came from far off villages and participated in the raising day celebration.
They witnessed combat demonstrations presented by cadres of the Zeliangrong Tiger Force (ZTF), army wing of the ZUF.
ZUF chairman Kamson opened the raising day celebration by hoisting the party's flag after which gun salute was given to the party's departed cadres.
Speaking at the occasion, chairman Kamson asked the gathering to take the raising day of ZUF as the birthday of Zeliangrong heroes.
The ZUF was set up to protect the land and resources of Zeliangrong and kindred tribes.
There is no difference between the ZUF's movement and Haipou Jadonang's movement which was aimed at protecting the Zeliangrong people's land from British imperialists, Kamson said.

In his address, ZUF commander-in-chief Jenchui Kamei stated that the Zeliangrong people need not lower their self-esteem.
Even as Zeliangrong people are scattered in Assam and Nagaland too, they have their own territories.
He also exhorted the Zeliangrong people to safeguard and promote Zeliangrong culture and traditions.
"When the Zeliangrong tribes are united, no other community can subdue us", the commander-in-chief stated.
Later speaking to media persons, chairman Kamson stated that ZUF is not a break away faction of NSCN-IM.
He also said that ZUF has not come under any form of agreement with Government of India or Government of Manipur.
