HERICOUN discusses connection between culture and nationalism at one-day seminar

Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), Manipur organised a one-day seminar on "Contemporary Manipuri Culture and Nationalism" at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today.
Dignitaries present at the event include Lourembam Kishworjit, Director Art and Culture, Government of Manipur as the chief guest; Longjam Ratankumar , president, HERICOUN as the functional president and RK Tharaksana, president, Women's Association for Socio Economic Development (WASDEV) as the guest of honour.
The seminar was divided into two sessions and the morning session witnessed cultural activist Narendra Ningomba, Mangkhonmani Mongsaba Assistant Professor, Manipur University of Culture and Bobby Wahengbam, consultant, Manipur State Film and Television Institute present papers on various topics.

In the afternoon session, Dr S Thanin Leima, Director Khenjong (A centre for theater research and production); Mutum Maniton, Guest Faculty, Department of Umang Lai Haraoba, Manipur University of Culture and Yengkhom Sanjitkumar, Assistant Professor, Manipur University of Culture presented papers on many interesting topics.
Speaking in this connection, Longjam Ratankumar stated that the seminar aims to discuss the differences between prevailing culture and culture of olden days.
He further said that through the seminar the gathering will discuss if prevailing culture helps in promoting the idea of nationalism or not.
