Imphal, June 19 2011:
Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) president RK Surjit has expressed strong resentment against the indifferent attitude of the State Government with regard to development and promotion of Dzuko Valley as a tourist spot.
Interacting with some newspersons at the Minuthong complex of MMTA today, Surjit said negligence on the part of the State Government came to light yet again when a 38 member team, which included three girls ascended the scenic dzuko Valley via Mount Ishok during a five-day trekking expedition from June 15 .
it is informed that besides a well-maintained road developed by the Government of Nagaland especially for trekkers taking the route from the nagaland side of the hill range, and a newly constructed helipad, canteen service facilities are being provided to the trekkers.
Compared to basic infrastructure provided by the Government of Nagaland, reaching the tourist spot from the Manipur side is still treacherous thereby requiring tactful negotiation by the travellers, highlighted the MMTA president.

He however informed that the recent expedition, nevertheless concluded successfully due to the assistance and presence of general manager of Mao Potato Farm namely Nilo Mao, Mao Town Committee president Adarii and the Committee's Youth president Moses, who also served as the local guides to the trekking team.
Suggesting that proper training of individuals with interest in adventure sport is inevitable to groom them as guides, Surjit also confided that a much shorter route upto Dzuko Valley from Yangkholen village is expected to be ready by the time Manipur Tourism Festival is held in November-December this year.
He also drew the attention of the State Govt to ensure proper development of the passage routes to Dzuko Valley as well as take steps that the scenic spot is pollution-free in order to attract both domestic and international tourists.
