Man pushed into river dies

Imphal, June 19 2011:
Body of a 31 years old youth who was pushed into the Luwanglei River by his friend who came with him yesterday was found today early in the morning after a massive search operations by local people and firemen.
The victim Telem Govinda went out of his home with his brother in law Nameirakpam Tomba (60) and a local friend Yendrembam Manglemba (40) son of late Ibocha at around 3.30 pm Saturday.
Family members enquired Tomba the whereabouts of Govinda when he did not return home till late in the night.
Tomba told them that he left them after they talked about a field after which Govinda and Manglemba went towards the bridge of the Luwanglei River together.
When they went near the bridge, they found the cycle of Manglemba lying under the bridge inside the river and they also found some footprints near the river bank beneath the bridge.
When they enquired about any witnesses, nearby local people told them that they saw Manglemba running through a short cut path in the evening.
Suspecting that Manglemba had pushed down Govinda into the river, family members informed Fire service and launch a massive search operations with the help of local people and firemen.
But they could not found the body of Govinda.
The search operation resumed in the early morning today and they found Govinda's body at a distance of about 1.5 km away from the bridge.
There were injury marks on the head of the victim.
Police recovered the body and performed post mortem at RIMS mortuary.
Regarding the incident, Sekmai police filed a case and started investigations.
The prime accused of the incident Yendrembam Manglemba is absconding since he left the village on a motorcycle on the night of Saturday towards Pheidinga.
