Imphal, June 19 2011:
Casting serious doubts over the commitment of the Government to ensure the safety and security of women, Young Women Help Organisation has demanded thorough investigations into the recent suicide cases of young married women of the State.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of the organisation, A Robita said that seven married women died in different suicide cases this year.
Questioning why post mortem reports of these cases have not been disclosed to victims' families, A Robita said that the circumstances that led to the death of these women were suspicious.
Stating that foul play cannot be ruled out in all the cases, A Robita said that the Government must conduct thorough investigations to ascertain whether these women killed themselves or were done to death.
She added that post mortem reports must be handed over to the victims' families in order to clear the doubts of the family members.
Remembering the death of one RK Ratanmala of Khurai, A Robita said, the accused Soibam Dhanabir of Langthabal Ningombam is moving freely although the case is still pending.
Saying that delayed justice would increase crime against women, A Robita stressed on the need for speedy trial in such cases.
Mentioning the contribution of women in society, A Robita drew the attention of Chief Minister O Ibobi to look into the matter so that justice is delivered at the earliest.
She informed the reporters that post mortem reports of Irom ongbi Tombisana Devi of Kyamgei Maning Leikai, Athokpam ongbi Nanao Devi of Naorem Leikai Pechu Lampak, Huidrom ongbi Promila Devi of Wabagai Tera Urak, Maibam ongbi Meena Devi of Wabagai, Laitonjam ongbi Darsana Devi of Singjamei, Laishram ongbi Memcha Devi of Singjamei, Moirangthem Rajeshori Devi of Sheijang Mayai Leikai and RK Ratanmala Devi of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai have not been given to their respective families so far.
