Imphal, July 03 2019: People nowadays have feared to use the word 'Freedom' fearing that using such word will land them in jail.

This was said by Th Somorendro, President, LIPUN in the 19th Foundation day celebration of UCM held today at the head office of UCM, Lamphel.

Speaking in the event he said that well educated people are the ones who fear more in using the term 'Freedom' and added that people needs to be aware that such word will never lead to jail and is guaranteed by UN as well as Indian Constitution.

He further added that such fear in the Freedom of Expression will hamper in raising the voice for justice.

Somorendro said that almost 90 percent of the people who agitates and participate in the movement were female.

Men seems to fear in participating such movement and agitation except in the case of ceasefire.

Reminding the days how UCM was formed President of IPSA Joychandra Konthoujam in his Presidium speech said that United Committee Manipur was formed as apex bodies of Civil society organisation to fight against those who tried to disintegrate Manipur which was done by the Bangkok ceasefire agreement between Government of India and NSCN IM.

He said that the people of the land lived together in harmony for the last two thousand years and such integration was disturbed by various policies of India by its divide and rule policy which was learnt from the British colonial era.

Somorendro affirmed that UCM will not be a mute spectator if there is dual administration or any disintegration of Manipur.

Not an inch of land of Manipur will be compromised, he assured.

He claimed that they will fight against all the policies of Indian government which tries divide and disintegrate.

Highlighting the need for proper demarcation of the District boundary Somorendro said that untoward incident will take place if the government fails to demarcate the controversial district boundary.

He urged the government to look into the matters at the earliest as there is more tension between the two neighbouring district and between two ethnic groups.

President of UPF Warepam Second said that UCM has been taking vital role in building emotional integrity between the hills and the valley.

He also said that even though everyone stands against the government and agitate against them such issues were all forgot during the times of election.

He highlighted the need to create awareness telling that Civil society organisation were non political entity.

Consultative committee member of UCM RK Ranendrajit question what kind of strategy should we do to fight in today's era.

He said that the idea of the past 20 years cannot be used and added that their is a paradigm shift and there is a need to change the way to fight in today's war of ideas.

President of UCM Sunil Karam said that people of the land need to find the enemy and fight unitedly against such enemy leaving behind ethnic lines.

He affirmed that they will not accept anything which is base of community and ethnic lines and will deny all the homeland demands irrespective of the community.

The function was attended by various leaders of civil society.
