The Central Agriculture University (CAU), Imphal is all set to extend every possible assistance in the agricultural activities of the farmers during the Kharif season.
The assistance is to be extended under the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) on cultivation of main crops covering a total area of 50 Paris at 10 different places.
The 10 places which have been identified for the purpose include Kakching Khunou, Langathel, Andro, Nachou, Khoijuman, Kotha Khunou, Moibung Khunou of Khurkhul, Heikrujam and Kamong.
In each of these areas, CAU would be provided the seedlings of its Tampha Phou and Lamyanba Irabot Phou free of cost to the farmers for cultivation under SRI method over 5 acres in each of these areas.
This was informed by Dean of College of Agriculture, CASU Prof N Iboton Singh while talking to some mediapersons yesterday.
Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a day-long training programme of the farmers on SRI at the academic block of the University today, Prof Iboton said that the University would be deploying its scientists and all other available technologies for close monitoring of these selected sites where the SRI method would be applied.
Expressing concern that the farmers in Manipur have been affected with shortage of rainfall last year and shortage of fuel this year, he also drew the attention the Government towards ensuring adequate supply of diesel, which is essential for drawing water to irrigate the field, among the farmers.
During the training programme today, heads of Departments of the Agricultural college spoke on the issues related to SRI method of cultivation.
