Imphal, June 05 2010:
Ahead of the 9th Unity Day observance to be held on June 18 All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation has appealed to the general public to extend financial or material assistance.
speaking to newspersons at its office today, AMUCO president KT Rahman alleged that callousness of the central Government to extend Indo-Naga ceasefire to Manipur after the june 14, 2004 Bangkok Declaration not only threatened boundary of Manipur but also posed one of the greatest challenges to the peaceful co-existence of various ethnic groups.
Stating that spontaneous public movement on June 18 the same year against the ceasefire extension foiled sinister intention and exposed inconsiderate attitude of the Centre, he said the movement claimed the life of 18 persons while several others suffered injuries.
The AMUCO president further informed that after offering floral tribute on June 18 morning at the martyrs memorial park at Kekrupat, the main observance function would be held with a public meeting at THAU ground.
AMUCO general secretary Deben expressed shock that the Central Government is yet to initiate action inspite of the people of Manipur reeling under severe hardships due to over 50 days of economic blockade along the two National Highways.
He also pointed out that while there is no reason to raise opposition to the NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah's aspiration to visit his birthplace, his ulterior motive and continuous campaign for carving out Greater Nagaland by distorting boundaries of other States is not acceptable and thus his proposed visit deserved to be prohibited at any cost.
