The gold medal presentation ceremony of Manipur University was held today at the varsity's centenary Hall with Governor Gurbachan Jagat, Vice Chancellor Prof C Amuba and Education Minister L Jayantakumar Singh gracing the occasion as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
apart from formal handing over of gold medal to 71 students and cash awards to seven meritorious students of the University, both the dignitaries also planted tree sapplings at the MU campus to commemorate World Environment Day today.

The award presentation ceremony that also marked the University's foundation day, covered the academic sessions from 2005 to 2008 .
noting rich culture and traditions of Manipur, the Governor in his address said manipur University during the last three decades has built up a good system of education and has produced a large number of men and women equipped with high order of scientific and technological capabilities, robust humanist and philosophical thought and creativity.
Expressing remorse that inspite of Manipur's scenic charm the people had been enduring hardships of various forms, Gurbachan Jagat however exuded confidence that through creativity, spirit of adventure, and cultural and spiritual values of the people problems beseiging the State could be resolved.
highlighting that education aims at promoting environmental protection, universal peace and cooperation, the chief guest further said apart from education promoting equality and justice, the learning process fosters cordiality between the teachers and students and through them the society develops.
He also called upon the students to contribute their mite in the development of the society.
Speaking at the occasion, L Jayantakumar stressed on the need for education of all without which survival in the modern age of stiff competition would be an arduous task.
The Minister also annoucned that the inaugural session of the NIT would commence from July 28 .
