Imphal, April 25 2024:
YPHU and NESU notched up convincing wins in Group B matches of the Manipur State League at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong on Thursday.
YPHU started the day with a 2-0 drubbing of RUC to collect full points.
YPHU took an early lead as Aimso Chithung scored six minutes after kick-off.
Despite their good start, YPHU were unable to make any further advances as RUC mounted a tough defence.
After the break, the game intensified with back-and-forth exchanges for the majority of the second period until Okram Rohit Singh made his effort count with a sublime finish in the 76th minute, putting YPHU 2-0 up.
RUC, despite their spirited efforts, had little time to mount a comeback as YPHU held their grounds to run out convincing winners.
Yumnam Moms Singh struck twice to help NESU to a 3-1 win over FC Lamjao in another Group B contest.
NESU went ahead in the 27th minute with Ngathem Imarson Meitei on target before Monis dazzled with a double before the halftime whistle.
Monis doubled the lead in the 41st minute and then scored his second and team's third in the dying seconds of first-half added time.
FC Lamjao reduced the arrears in the 50th minute through Ningthoujam Defender Singh, but they failed to improve in the remaining minutes, leading to a 3-1 result in favour of NESU.
