Hockey tourney: IW, Thoubal, IE continue winning run

Imphal, August 27 2023: Imphal West girls continued their winning run by defeating Kakching 4-1 in the group match of the 29th Nehru Girls (U-17) Hockey Tournament 2023 at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

After a 1st minute goal by Kakching's Divia O, IW fought back with two goals each from K Eleena Devi (3rd & 11th) and captain L Ritu Devi (9 th & 14th) .

Meanwhile, in the group matches of the 51st Nehru Junior Boys (U-17) Hockey Tournament 2023 at same venue, Imphal West brushed aside Kakching 7-0 and Thoubal beat Imphal East 3-1.Goals for IW were scored by captain S Sanson (2nd & 46 th), Y Rishi (7th), M Thoiba (9th), M Benarjit (16th & 25th) and M Borish (45th) .

In the second match, IE's solitary goal was struck by Kh Niraman in 24th minute after which Thoubal clawed its way back to win the match with goals from Ak Irabot (38th & 54th) and captain Ch Rakeshbabu (55 th) .

On the other hand, IE boys trounced Thoubal 17 0 and IW boys routed Kakching 15-1 in group matches of the 40th Nehru Sub-Junior Boys (U-15) Hockey tournament 2023 on Sunday.

In the first match, hat-tricks by S Neetil Singh (5th, 28th & 53rd), Th Avinash (16th, 31st & 39th + 40th) & M Manimatum (48th, 50th & 51st) along with goals from Vishal Waribam (8 th & 21st), S Khemanda Singh (12th), K Suraj Singh (22nd), captain W Deris (24th), K Aryan (30th) and N Mahesh (47th) ensured the comfortable victory for IE over Thoubal.

In the second match, six goals were scored for IW by Sommaya Kasar (18th, 22nd, 34th, 43rd, 54th & 59th), hat-trick by Malemnganba Akoijam (7th, 26th & 49th), two by Milan Athokpam (11th & 47th) and one goal each by Huidrom Boiton (14th), captain Kenish Loitongbam (29th), M Boynao Singh (42nd) and Ngasepam Bishal Singh (48th), while the Kakching face-saving goal was put in by Arison 26 th) .
