CCpur, August 27 2023:
The State Government has informed that alternative supply chain cum transportation of essential commodities to Churachandpur district has been taken up through Silchar and Aizawl due to disruption of Imphal-Dimapur supply chain.
Notably, transportation of essential commodities from Imphal to Churachandpur with the coordination of Indian Army, CAPF and Assam Rifles is also set to be carried out from August 28 .
In this regard, some of the issues faced during transportation include unwillingness of transportation operators to operate between Imphal to Churachandpur and other security issues like law and order issues in the inter district boundary which hampers smooth movement of essential commodities.
The security issues along the national highways are being addressed by the State Police along with AR, CAPF and District Trade and Commerce Department in coordination with the public.
Other actions taken up to ensure smooth flow of essential commodities include regular review meetings on price and availability situation held at the DC level.
Retail sale of rice was also undertaken from the stock held by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), which amounted to 4823.50 quintals of rice distributed under Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) .
Price Reporting Centres have also been established by the SDOs along with the Autonomous District Council (ADC) staff to report on retail and wholesale prices and stringent action against hoarders and black marketers manipulating market prices is taken to prevent any hoarding.
The Government has taken up various measures to ensure that medical supplies are reaching Churachandpur district, with the Health Department undertaking multiple sorties of transportation through BSF, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and through helicopter service.
The Government is also monitoring the price of twenty-two essential commodities, namely, rice, wheat, atta, gram, dal, tur (arhar) dal, urad dal, moong dal, masoor dal, sugar, gur, groundnut oil, mustard oil, vanaspati, sunflower oil, soya oil, palm oil, tea, milk, potato, onion, tomato and salt with District Level Price Monitoring Cell/Price Monitoring Committee set up with the Deputy Magistrate of Churachandpur as the Chairman.
