Imphal, August 27 2023:
As in other parts of the State, womenfolk in Khurai have launched a relay hunger strike with a call to unite all the civil society organisations (CSOs) in Manipur and to take a concrete resolution to safeguard the State's integrity during the upcoming session of the State Assembly, today.
Organised by Khurai Heigrumakhong Apunba Nupi Lup, the protesters resolved to continue the hunger strike until their demands are entertained.
Speaking to the media, one of the protesters Laitonjam ongbi Ashalata said that womenfolk from three wards of Khurai Konsam Leikai began the relay hunger strike from 9 am today under the supervision of Thawai Meerel.
Saying that they launch the protest to mount pressure on the Government and let them a take resolution to protect the State's integrity during the one-day Assembly session scheduled on August 29, she said that the womenfolk will launch a series of agitation from the next day (August 30) if the MLAs fail to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
Further stating that CSOs not able to unite when Manipur literally is burning since for over three months is unfortunate, Ashalata said that they (the mothers) are displeased by the act of CSOs.
It would be right for all the CSOs to work under a single leadership and face the narco-terrorists who use different methods to disintegrate Manipur together, she added.
