Imphal, August 27 2023:
Do the Meiteis have to take permission from the Kukis to visit the sacred sites of the ethnic group, asked retired Associate Professor of Model College Dr H Indrakumar during the inaugural function of Global Meitei Union (GMU) at Manipur Press Club, today.
Addressing the function held under the theme "Revisiting the historical identity of Meitei People", Dr H Indrakumar claimed that Kukis have taken control of many heritage and religious sites of the Meiteis and it is a major drawback for the people belonging to the ethnic group.
He also alleged that the present politicians only vie for power and don't care about the wellbeing of 'our people' .
"It is imperative to revisit our history to safeguard our identity," Dr Indrakumar continued and asserted that the future of Manipur has to be shaped by the Manipuris only.
Claiming that the Central Government and its security forces seem to be taking the side of Kukis amid the violence in Manipur, he said that the Government not taking up any action against Kuki militants who carried out unpardonable and horrific crimes against the Meitei civilians is questionable.
Further stating that Kuki narco-terrorists are self-centred people who want to disintegrate Manipur, Dr Indrakumar appealed to the Government to take up befitting action against these narco-terrorists.
