163 displaced people belonging to Meitei community of Moreh have been brought to Imphal under tight security by Assam Rifles today evening.
Notably, more than 300 people including women and children had fled border town Moreh to Myanmar when Kukis started burning and vandalising Meitei houses and shops on May 3 .
While some of them had earlier returned to Moreh and were evacuated by security forces to safety, the Assam Rifles had rescued and brought back 212 people from Myanmar on August 19 .
While some are still with the Assam Rifles in Moreh, 163 of the displaced people were brought to Imphal today under strict security measures by personnel of 5 AR, 20 AR and 21 AR .
It is not known when the remaining people will be evacuated to Imphal.
It may be noted that since May 3, more than 1,200 houses and 400 shops belonging to the Meitei community have been looted, vandalised and burnt at Moreh.
Thousands of people belonging to the community are at present staying at different relief camps opened across several districts in the valley.
The violence first erupted from Churachandpur and neighbouring areas in Bishnupur district on May 3 during ATSUM's "Solidarity March" which saw protesters holding AK-47 weapons.
