28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) launched afforestation drive under Van Mahotsav at Keithelmanbi camp on 07 and 08 Jul 2010 in a bid to retain the vanishing forest covers of the state.
The main purpose for planting the trees during Van Mahotsav is to: Increase awareness about trees and love of trees amongst the people.
Help soil conservation and arrest deterioration of soil fertility.
Brigadier Gajendra Prasad, VSM, Commander 9 Sector Assam Rifles inaugurated the event, which was followed by large scale plantation of native species of plants all over Keithelmanbi.
Approx 1000 plants were planted on the first day and further more also are to be planted on subsequent days.
Saplings were procured by the Forests, Horticulture departments, farmers and nurseries.
