Imphal, July 07 2010:
Under Food Co-operation of India (FCI), Public Distribution System (PDS) quota for the State of Manipur will be brought to Jiribam in the Manipur-Assam border by the FCI authority, disclosed Y Erabot who is the Minister of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA/PD) on the floor of the House during the first day of the Monsoon session today.
The Minister was replying to a question raised by Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, MLA of Khurai Assembly Constituency in connection with the distribution of PDS items in the State.
Erabot further informed the august House that the rice stocked at the godown for Manipur will last for about a month and around 19 rice taden trucks will arrive in Imphal shortly.
On the petroleum products stock position, he replied that 455 KL petrol has been stocked that can last for 4 days, 2197 KL of diesel for 6 days, 332 KL of SK oil and 1.74 metric tone of LPG or cooking gas are currently available in the stock for public consumption.
He elaborated that the essential commodities for the State are yet to be stabilized as the blockade was lifted just recently coupled with the reluctance of the drivers and transportersto ply along National Highway-39 .
The Minister also informed the Assembly that the rice will be distributed at subsidized rates for the card holders of BPL and APL besides the people who are facing natural calamity.
A team of officials from the Food Corporation of India had a meeting with the Chief Minister yesterday where representatives of the Tranbsporters' and Drivers' Council were present and made it clear that they would not ply on NH-39 .
