Imphal, July 07 2010:
As announced earlier, volunteers of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) today raided over 30 godowns in and around Mantripukhri today to take first hand account of the existing stock position of foodstuff.
During the raids, large quantity of various foodstuffs which are either not available in the market or are being sold at high price were found in abundance.
AMSU volunteers were assisted by Meira Paibis during the raids which began at around 11.30 am.
Prior to conducting the raids, AMSU volunteers and Meira Paibis asked the godown owners to keep the doors of the godown open.

However, the locks of some godowns had to be broke down as the owners did not co-operate.
Hoarding of large quantity foodstuff like Parmal, Superfine, salt, Everyday Milk, onion, garlic, chillies, cooking oil, Besan, sugar, cereal, Parley G biscuits, 50-50 and Maggie have been detected in some of the godowns.
It is said that similar raids would also be conducted in godowns located in other parts of Imphal.
With the Government not taking up any proactive action to curb the rising prices of essential goods, despite the blockade being lifted on June 18, it was left to the student organisation to do the needful.
