Imphal, October 07 2014:
The issue of ILPS implementation in the State was mainly deliberated during the get-together function of Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), held at Manipur Press Club today.
IPAK chairman Sapamcha Jadumani, IPAK legal advisor Advocate Th Manihar and Gourahari Mutum graced the function as presidium members.
Sapamcha Jadumani while speaking at the function said that pro-ILPS movement started in the year 1989 demanding implementation of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation like in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
After the State Cabinet and Manipur Legislative Assembly gave its nod to implement the Regulation, the State Government had entrusted the matter to the newly formed All Political Party Committee, he added.
However, it is still doubtful whether the Committee would demand ILPS if it is not viable to enact an Act similar to the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation.
Saying that the Government is wasting its time by entrusting the issue to the newly formed political parties' committee, Jadumani said that extension of ILPS to Manipur would be the right decision.
In his keynote address, IPAK general secretary Premkumar Pebam said that the association was formed on August 8 at Keishampat to protect the indigenous people of the State.
